Description

Spelling is defined as the action, practice or art of naming the letters of words, of reading letter by letter or of expressing words by letters. ‘Letters’ are written signs called ‘alphabets’ and they denote elementary sounds by the combination of which words can be visibly represented. Spelling may be of three main types. They are (i)Phonetic(Sounds),(ii)Ideographic(idea)and (iii)Mixed(Sound and Idea).For the benefit of learners a list of words which are frequently misspelt is also given. It is hoped that a mastery of the spelling of these words will go a long way in making the learneravoid mistakes in spelling.
